You are in a meeting or watching movie with your girlfriend; suddenly a voice mail comes up and you don't want to hear it. How about reading it? Sounds weird but useful.

It looks like Google heard this wish and has now come up with this brilliant concept in its Google Voice service. It is now open to all for registration but still only works in US. The service was launched about an year ago and till now, it was only invitation based.

Now anyone can make use of the services offered by Google Voice.

The best feature of Google Voice is that they give you a unique telephone number which maps all your number like office number, mobile and home phone number.

One Number

  • When somebody calls you on your Google number, you have an option of making all three of your phones ring or none.
  • You can also choose to ring a particular phone according to different time of day.
  • You can also change your phone operator/ provider without even changing your Google Voice number. In fact, Changing your operator of your work, home or mobile phone will not affect your reachability.
This way, you are saved from keeping track of voice mails on all three of your phones.

This is indeed a very good service.

Cheap International Calls

You can make international calls at dirt cheap rates using Google Voice. Some rates are as low as USD 0.02 per minute.

Read Your Voice Mails

Your voice mails get saved to your Google Voice account and you also get an email in your account. This way you can also read and search through your voice mail transcriptions.
