Facebook apps on the mobile need network? I mean do in need to coonect to any wifi to get it working?

Yes. It does connect to internet to get the data and show on your FB APP.
If you are not connected to internet, it will throw and error or may show obsolete or old data.
Every time you say refresh on FB app, it connects to internet and fetches the latest activity.
